KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Railway Authority (ARA) says more than 464,000 metric tons of goods were imported from central Asian countries and 16,000 metric tons of goods exported through railway lines during the last one month.
ARA on Monday published a statement on its Twitter page, saying a total of 481,3 81 metric tons of goods were imported and exported through the country’s railways last month.
The authority said 347, 884 tons of goods were imported to the country through Hairatan railway track, 21,689 tons through Aqina and 95,396 tons through Torghundi railway line. The total imports weighed 464, 969 metric tons.
While 16,412 metric tons of goods were exported to foreign countries through the same routes during the period, with dried fruits and talcum powder constituting the bulk of the exports.
ARA spokesman Abdul Sami Durrani told Pajhwok Afghan News the imports included wheat, flour, oil, liquefied gas, ghee and others. These goods were imported from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Russia and China.
He said talcum powder and dried fruits (raisins, almonds, pistachios, walnuts) were exported to Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. He said they were trying to provide more facilities to traders.
