KABUL (Pajhwok): High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell says the union jointly with UN backs Afghan people, particularly women and girls.
Borrell tweeted: “Glad to welcome UN DSG Amina Mohammad in Brussels for an informative discussion after her visit to Afghanistan.”
He said the EU jointly with UN continues to stand with the Afghan people particularly women and girls.
Amina Mohammad during her recent visit to Afghanistan conveyed a direct message to Taliban leadership calling on them to put the good of the country first and end recent policies towards women and girls that have confined them in their own homes, and violated their basic human rights.
She was accompanied by the Executive Director of UN Women, Sima Bahous, and the Assistant Secretary-General for UN political, peacebuilding and peace operations, Khaled Khiari.
The top UN delegates spent four days on a fact-finding mission in Afghanistan, to engage with Taliban leaders, and “underscore UN solidarity with the Afghan people”, according to a press release issued to correspondents on Friday.
