KABUL (Pajhwok): People in different provinces of the country on Friday held protest demonstrations against the desecration of the holy Quran in Sweden and the Netherlands.
A few days ago, a right-wing politician burned a copy of the Holy Quran during an anti-Turkey rally in Sweden and then another politician in The Hague, the Netherlands, tore pages of the holy book.
Several Islamic countries, including Afghanistan, have strongly condemned the burning and desecration of the Quran. Kabul has asked the two countries to punish the perpetrators of the incidents.
As part of fresh protests, people in Baghlan, Laghman, Badakhshan, Panjshir, Balkh, Kabul, Jawzjan, Paktia, Sar-i-Pul, Nangarhar, Badghis and Ghor provinces came out after Friday prayers and condemned the desecration of the holy Quran.
In Laghman, a protest was held by local elders, religious scholars, youth and common people who condemned the desecration of the holy Quran in Sweden.
The protest lasted for around two hours and participants chanted slogans against Sweden and US in response to dishonoring the holy book.
Similarly in Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan province, thousands of people protested again disrespect to the holy book.
Similar protests were also held after Friday prayer in Balkh, Panjshir, Paktia and other parts of the country.
The protesters called on the Islamic countries not to remain silent on the issue of disrespect to the holy Quran and inquire after the incident.
