KABUL (Pajhwok): Malnutrition rates have hit a new high as 50 percent of Afghans face severe acute hunger throughout the year, the World Food Programme (WFP) says.
AP quoted a WFP spokesman as saying 875,000 children were expected to suffer from severe malnutrition. Another 2.3 million children and 840,000 women face moderate acute malnutrition in 2023 in Afghanistan.
If the country suffered a third year of drought, according to the spokesman, the nutrition situation could deteriorate by a further 20 percent.
