AIBAK (Pajhwok): Relocated hay, firewood and tree seedlings sellers in Aibak, the capital of northern Samangan province, complain they lack facilities at the new venue and as a result their business has slowed down.

With their number reaching hundreds, the vendors sell woods, hay and tree seedlings. They expressed dissatisfaction in interview with Pajhwok Afghan News about the new location and asked the government to provide them the same services they had in their previous location.

Muhibullah Khasar, one of hay sellers, said: “Our previous location was better, we had many facilities like mosque, water and hotels, here we have nothing”.

Najmuddin, another hay seller, said the municipality had promised to move all hay sellers to one location, but many remained at the old location.

“Officials at the beginning promised that we will be provided facilities like electricity, water, mosque, toilets and others facilities, but they failed to do so”, he said.

Haji Ghulam Sakhi, one of the wood sellers, said it was good to relocate all vendors to a single location, but they should be provided with facilities like water and electricity. He asked the government to consolidate the river’s banks to protect them from the danger of flooding in spring.

Nooruddin, one of the trees seedlings sellers, complained of low sales and asked the government to provide them with facilities at the new location.

Aibak mayor Faiz Mohammad Raihan told Pajhwok the relocation of vendors was aimed at bringing order to the city and facilitating people’s and vehicular movements.

“This action may create some problems at the beginning, but such problems will be addressed in the future,” the mayor said.
