Salang highway shut for cargo vehicles

CHARIKAR (Pajhwok): The Salang highway, connecting Kabul with northern provinces, has been closed for cargo trucks due to heavy snowfall, an official said on Sunday.

Hafiz Mohammad Yaqoob, maintenance commander of the highway, said the key road was closed for heavy traffic on Saturday evening.

Meanwhile, the Kabul-Ghor and Ghor-Herat highways were also closed for traffic due to heavy snowfall.

Yaqoob said small vehicles, however, could travel the Salang highway, which witnesses deadly accidents in the winter.
