Above 6,000 people being employed in Zabul with WFP help

QALAT (Pajhwok): Thousands of needy people are being provided with work opportunity against a monthly salary in southern Zabul province with the help of the World Food Program (WFP), officials said on Tuesday.

Qalat municipality officials say a total of 6,295 people will be hired in Qalat city, the provincial capital, following the completion of an ongoing survey to identify deserving persons.

Ziaul Haq Zahid, director of urban governance at Qalat Municipality, told Pajhwok that they had launched the survey to identify 6,295 needy and unemployed people.

He said these people will be employed for six months for cleanliness and construction of streets in Qalat City against 4300 afghanis per month.

He said previously 6,000 people had been hired for four months in the same way with WFP’s financial support.

Eng. Baryalai, provincial official of the Friends Social Development Organization (FCDO) in Zabul, told Pajhwok that they would provide technical cooperation in the project.

He said needy people, who supported widows, orphans, sick and malnourished children, would be employed.

Meanwhile, Qalat residents expressed happiness that thousands of people were being given employment for six months.

Azizullah, a resident of Qalat city, told Pajhwok that most people were poor and jobless and if provided jobs, they would work for the province and would also support their families.
