TALOQAN (Pajhwok): A high-tonnage scale has been set and inaugurated in the Namak Ab district of northern Takhar province amid to halt the smuggling of coal and salt, an official said on Wednesday.
Governor Spokesperson Mohammad Arif Arif told Pajhwok Afghan News: “In order to prevent the smuggling of coal and salt, local authorities have set and inaugurated a high-tonnage scale at the cost of $50,000 in the Taqcha Khana area. The move will help prevent smuggling and increase government revenue.”
He said the scale can lift up to 120 tonnes of weight.
Matiulllah Mohammadi, deputy head of the north coal enterprise, his department paid for the high-tonnage cost and added it will help prevent smuggling of coal and salt.
He added in the past due to the none-availability of high-tonnage scale coal and salt loaded vehicles weight was estimated.
Takhar is one of the provinces of Afghanistan which is rich in natural resources.
