Herat traders donate $56,000 to Turkey quake victims

KABUL (Pajhwok): Businessmen of western Herat province have donated more than $50,000 to the earthquake victims in Turkey, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday.

MoFA spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi wrote on his Twitter page: “The national businessmen of Herat province donated $56500 dollars to the victims of the earthquake in Turkey in cooperation with the governor of Herat and representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”

The cash assistance was handed over to the Turkish Consulate by the governor of Herat, the MoFA representative and the businessmen.

MoFA has announced 10 million afghanis assistance for Turkey and five million afghanis for Syria.

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi in a telephonic conversation with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu said if Turkey wanted, Afghanistan would send rescue and health teams to the quake-affected areas of Turkey.

The death toll from earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria on February 6 passed 35,000 on Monday.
