FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): At least 75 residential houses have been damaged by a strong temblor in northeastern Badakhshan province.
The 4.7 magnitude earthquake struck at on Thursday night, said the natural disaster management director for the province.
Maulvi Mohammad Akram Akbari added the tremor had inflicted huge losses on the people. Five houses were destroyed in Darayem district, 10 in Baharak and 30 in Yaftal. One child is said to be missing.
But residents claim the destruction of houses and financial losses caused by the overnight quake were higher than official estimates.
They said four houses were razed in Ghola Dara and Salymayet villages of Arghanjkhoa district and a number of domestic animals killed in the Dara Jawzgun area of the province.
