KABUL (Pajhwok): Republicans on the US House Committee on Oversight and Accountability have sought data from several agencies on the withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan.
The committee said letters had been sent out calling for documents, communications and information related to the chaotic pullout, evacuation, and vetting and screening of Afghans relocating to the US.
In a statement on its website, the panel said. On Friday letters had been dispatched to the White House National Security Council, the Department of State, the Pentagon, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Department of Homeland Security and the US Agency for International Development.
The administration’s decisions had resulted in a national security and humanitarian catastrophe, it said, adding the Taliban had gained access to US military equipment left behind in Afghanistan.
The Republican representatives wrote US servicemen and women lost their lives, Americans were abandoned and taxpayer dollars remained unaccounted for.
“The American people deserve answers and the Biden Administration’s ongoing obstruction of this investigation is unacceptable,” remarked the chairman of the committee.
