PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan says its imports from Afghanistan have fallen drastically in the first seven months of the current fiscal year (2022-23).
Compared to the corresponding period of last year, imports from the neighbouring country slumped to $13.389 million from $105.605 million.
Figures from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) for the period under review indicate a decline of 87.32 percent in imports from the landlocked country.
In annual terms, imports from Afghanistan slumped by 99.10 percent from $15.175 million in January 2022 to $0.136 million in January 2023.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan rose by 10.58 percent. The overall exports to Afghanistan stood at $285.177 million between July and January — up from $257.888 million in the same period in 2021-22.
Also in annual terms, exports to Afghanistan jumped by 93.26 percent from $17.384 million in January 2022 to $33.598 million in January 2023.
Trade in goods and services with Afghanistan saw a spike of 78.47 percent. The surplus was recorded at $271.788 million — up from $152.283 million during the same period of last year.
