Newly reconstructed bridge inaugurated in Khost

KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): A 60-meter long that consumed 40 million afghanis to be reconstructed after being destroyed by flood was inaugurated in southeastern Khost province on Saturday.

Flood destroyed the newly reconstructed bridge in Mishkona area of Mandozai district a few months ago.

Reconstruction of the 60-meter long and 10-meter wide road took five months to be completed and put into service today.

Maulavi Akhtar Mohammad Akrama, chief of staff at the governor’s office, during the bridge’s inauguration, said money for the bridge’s reconstruction was provided from the government’s budget.

He said to protect the bridge from floods, 250 meters long retaining walls were also constructed on both sides of the bridge.

“This is the third project to be inaugurated this week, In Sha Allah, more projects will be also implemented in the future as well,” Akrama said.

Local residents said the Mishkona Bridge connected some areas of Mandozai’ and Tani districts with Khost city and the airport.

Faiz Mohammad, a tribal elder of Mandozai district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the people faced numerous problems after the bridge was destroyed.

He praised the provincial administration for positively responding to people’s request to reconstruct the bridge.

He said: “The water level was high and people especially patients faced many difficulties because of the destroyed bridge.” He asked the government to implement similar projects in other areas as well.

Kifayatullah Fahimi, another resident of the area, told Pajhwok many problems were solved with reconstruction of the bridge.

He said: “We are very happy that the bridge is reconstructed, the quality of the reconstruction work is good and the government should build more bridges that we need in our area”.

Some other residents asked the government to rebuild bridges destroyed by floods.
