KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Food and Drug Authority (AFDA) has closed 379 pharmacies so far this year due to arbitrary operation and absence of professional individuals for their daily operation.
AFDA Spokesman Doctor Hazheer told Pajhwok Afghan News 1,765 pharmacies had been monitored in capital Kabul out of which 379 were locked.
Some of the locked pharmacies operated in arbitrary manner while some were without professional personnel, he said.
Hazheer added During the period hundreds types of medics were recovered from these pharmaices. “Some of the confiscated medics were expired, some were imported to the country through illegal ways while some others were suspicious medics which were delivered to the labs for examinations”.
He said some of the seized medicines were dangerous for health as its composition was unhealthy medically.
The spokesperson said AFDA was currently operating only in Kabul city and it was planning to extend its operations next year to the provinces as well during.
AFDA personnel round the clock monitored medicine companies and take action when a company violate the law or import medicine which is dangerous for public health.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sharafat Zaman, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), on 18 of February, told Pajhwok that 425 dental clinics closed because of the violation of medical rules.
