Ready to interact with global fraternity: IEA

KABUL (Pajhwok): The caretaker government has repudiated parts of a he report that was recently presented to the United Nations Security Council and expressed its readiness for interaction.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the UN secretary-general, in the absence of Afghanistan’s representative, presented the report to the UNSC about the current situation in the country.

In a statement, the ministry welcomed some parts of the report regarding developments in Afghanistan, such as good governance, accountability, access to public services, strengthening govt bodies, formation of ulema councils and paying salaries of female employees of abolished institutions.

The UN chief also hailed IEA efforts for reconciliation with former officials, seizure of weapons, curbing narcotics smuggling, rehabilitation of drug addicts and combating Daesh insurgents.

The statement added: “The IEA doesn’t agreed with claims of increasing violations of the general amnesty, arbitrary arrests, rising torture.”

The report alleged nine murders, 17 arrests and nine vases of torture nationwide and killings during investigation.

The ministry also denied activities of 23 militant groups in Afghanistan, as claimed in the report to the UNSC.

The caretaker government voiced its support for constructive interaction between the IEA and the international community, calling such engagement a priority for the people of Afghanistan.

It said the IEA was ready to continue its cooperation with the international community in line with Afghanistan’s sovereignty, national interests and Islamic teachings on addressing shared concerns.
