KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations has vehemently condemned Saturday’s attack on journalists in Mazar-e-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province.
On its Twitter handle, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) wrote that attacks on journalists were unacceptable.
“UNAMA strongly condemns despicable attack on journalists in Mazar-e Sharif, Afghanistan, latest unacceptable incident in the city,” the mission said.
While appreciating the Afghan reporters’ courage, UNAMA urged a quick stop to violence against journalists in the country.
“Violence must stop. Afghan reporters show immense courage and must be protected,” the statement added.
The UNAMA also said, “We express condolences to victims & wish a quick recovery for injured.”
In a suicide bombing at his office on Thursday, Balkh Governor Mullah Dawood Muzamil was killed along with two civilians.
