KABUL (Pajhwok): Construction work on a grand mosque with capacity for 1,500 worshippers has been launched at the Presidential Palace in Kabul, says the government.
The Government’s Media and Information Center (GMIC) said work of the mosque project would be completed within a year.
A GMIC statement said the mosque’s foundation stone was laid on Wednesday by Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund.
This mosque being built on 1,060 square metres of land would have the capacity for 1,500 worshippers, the statement added.
Domestic materials such as marbles of Herat, Helmand and Maidan Wardak provinces and wood from Nuristan are being used in the mosque’s construction.
The four-minaret mosque will be equipped with a library, teaching rooms, central heating, internet and acoustic systems.
