Over 3,000 killed, wounded in natural disasters this year

KABUL (Pajhwok): About 3,200 people have suffered causalities due to natural disasters and nearly 33,000 houses completely or partially destroyed across country this year, the State Ministry for Natural Disaster Management said on Tuesday.

Mullah Mohammad Abbas Akhund, Acting Minister of Natural Disaster Management, said in a video published that 1,102 people have died and 2,159 others injured as a result of natural disasters this year.

According to him, 9,808 houses have been destroyed completely, 2,3140 others partially damaged, 80,000 livestock were lost and about 74,000 acres of agricultural land were destroyed.

He added that 401 shops and 1,720 kilometers of roads were also damaged due to rain-induced floods this year.

The natural disasters (floods, rains and earthquakes) also caused human and financial losses.

According to him, the ministry has provided assistance to about 700,000 affected families.
