Scores of weapons seized in Balkh, Paktia operations

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): About 130 different weapons have been seized in northern Balkh and southeastern Paktia provinces, police officials said on Sunday.

Balkh police spokesman Mohammad Asif Waziri told Pajhwok Afghan News three arms depots were seized during operations in Sholgar, Charkent and Marmal districts on Saturday.

Waziri said 63 different weapons, including rockets, machine guns, Kalashnikovs and pistols, were recovered.

He said three suspects were detained in connection with the arms seizures.

Separately, security forces seized 67 weapons in the Mirzaki district of Paktia province late on Saturday, said police chief Munib Zadran.

He added the weapons recovered from a vehicle and one man and five women were arrested in connection with the arms seizure.
