MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Natural disasters destroyed 30,000 acres of agricultural land and claimed 21 lives in eastern Laghman province last year, an official said on Monday.
Natural Disaster Management director Qari Khair Mohammad Ghazi told Pajhwok Afghan News there were more natural disasters in 1401 solar year than other years and caused heavy financial and life losses.
He added that 30,000 acres of agricultural land was destroyed last year due to natural disasters that partially destroyed 8,900 houses and completely wiped out 260 homes.
The calamities killed 21 people and injured 64 others last year and the government gave 100,000 afghanis to the families of each deceased and 50,000 to the family of each injured.
He said 3500 animals were killed and five large bridges destroyed in these incidents.
