Tani’s led council settle tens of local disputes in Kunduz

KUNUZ CITY (Pajhwok): A council led by a local resident in northern Kunduz province has managed to resolve tens of public disputes and its head said he was interested to bring peace and promote brotherhood among people.

Abdul Karim Tani, the council head, has been involved in dispute resolution over the past several years. He said some of the complicated dispute which remained unsettled in the court of law had been resolved by him.

The 48-year-old has incepted a council and added since 2013 he resolved tens of public disputes in Kunduz, Takhar, Baghlan, Paktia and Khost provinces.

Tanai said most of the dispute he resolved were legal, criminal and financial which lasted for years.

“My dream is that there should be peace in Afghanistan, the Islamic system exists, there is no fighting, disputes between people should be resolved and people would be able to live in peace.”

He added Afghanistan was a country of Jirgas and discussion and asked the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to create tribal Jirgas for dispute resolutions nationwide.

Gul Karim Tani, a member of this council who work to resolve public disputes said. Some disputes being resolved through this Jirgas are hundreds years old and never resolved through the court of law.

He said they resolved disputes keeping in mind the Islamic Sharia laws and satisfaction of disputed parties.

Regarding Abdul Karim Tani, he said: “Tani start reacting to disputes soon after he get informed regarding dispute between two people.”

Tanai’s efforts are warmly welcomed by local people and residents.

Mujahid Noorani, a civil society activist, said: “Tani is the one who resolved hundreds of disputes among people and we should welcomed these efforts. These types of people who want to resolve public disputes are rare and their efforts should be recognized.”

Waheedullah Karwan, a local resident of Kunduz, province also hailed the role of local councils and Jirgas vital in dispute resolutions and thanked people like Tani for their efforts.

He said: “Dispute resolution among people is vital. There a lot of problems among people in this country, these councils helped resolve public disputes and created environment of peace and stability.”

This comes that local councils are considered one of the tool behind dispute resolution in the county.
