PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A constitutional crisis is brewing in Pakistan as the ruling coalition and the Supreme Court stick to their guns on the issue of by-elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.
On Tuesday, the National Assembly -- lower house of parliament -- and the federal cabinet plainly refused to implement the Supreme Court’s verdict on the May 14 date for the election in Punjab.
Following the ouster of Imran Khan as prime minister last year, PTI-dominated Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies were dissolved. The party has since been calling for by-polls in the two provinces.
