GHAZNI (Pajhwok): Estimated to cost eight million afghanis, reconstruction work on a bridge has been launched on the Kabul-Kandahar highway in southern Ghazni province.
Mullah Muhibullah Abbas, Ghazni Public Works director, told Pajhwok Afghan News the bridge was being constructed in Nani Bazaar area of Andar district.
He added that the bridge had been destroyed during the past wars and was now being reconstructed at a cost of eight million afghanis.
“The bridge is 50 meters long and four meter wide. It will have nine-meter wide footpaths on both sides and 20-meter wing walls on each side in order to protect each side from floodwater.”
He said the contract for construction of the bridge had been awarded to a company and the project was expected to complete over the next one month and a half.
Abbas said the bridge’s construction would resolve problems faced by people during rains and floods.
He said when the bridge was destroyed, floods washed away agricultural lands, gardens, houses and shops in the area.
Residents motorists and commuters expressed their happiness about the reconstruction of the important bridge.
