MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): The cleaning of canals in Maidan Wardak province was launched on Thursday with financial support of the World Bank at a cost of 14 million afghanis.
In a statement, the Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department said 16 canals of irrigation water would be cleaned in Jalrez and First Behsud districts.
The department said 678 people have been hired for the cleaning work in exchange for cash for two months.
The press release did not say how much money each worker will be paid per month, but added that the project will be completed in two months.
