KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): One armed robber was killed and another captured during a clash with security forces in the Dand district of southern Kandahar province last night, an official said on Sunday.
The governor’s spokesman, Haji Zaid, told Pajhwok that some armed robbers wanted to commit a house burglary in Karezak area of Dand district when confronted by security forces.
He said the robbers put up resistance and as a result, one thieve was killed, another captured alive and a third managed to escape.
He said the robbers wanted to steal a rickshaw and other things from the house, but security forces chased them and eventually they opened fire at the security forces.
Last week, robbers killed a couple in Spin Boldak district and injured some other members of the family.
Although security forces arrest many thieves every week in Kandahar city and districts, the number of robberies has not declined.
Kandahar residents fear an increase in robberies ahead of Eidul Fitr.
Sayed Ahmad, a resident of Kandahar City, said robberies had increased as money, motorcycles and other things were taken from people at gun-point in broad daylight.
Mostly drug addicts are found involved in house burglaries, but people say professional robbers, who commit big robberies, are more dangerous than others and should be punished.
