KABUL (Pajhwok): Amid a nascent reconciliation process, a high-level Saudi delegation is currently in Iran for talks on reopening the kingdom’s embassy in Tehran.
Media reports said on Sunday the two sides would also confer on reopening the Saudi consulate in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad.
Since China brokered a landmark deal between Riyadh and Tehran on March 10, it is the maiden trip by a Saudi delegation to Iran.
The visit, dueling hopes for a detente between Iran and Saudi Arabia, follows an April 6 meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries in Beijing.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the visit is aimed to implement the agreement reached between the two sides to revive diplomatic relations severed in 2016.
The state-run news agency said the technical delegation held negotiations with the protocol head at the Foreign Ministry in Tehran.
