PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Sweden has shut its embassy in Pakistan’s capital, citing security concerns, a media report said on Thursday.
“The Embassy of Sweden is closed for visitors. The Migration Section is not, at the moment, able to handle requests of any kind,” Dawn reported.
In a notice on its website, the embassy said it could not send any documents to its consulates, Gerry´s, or to the applicant’s home address.
“We understand that this will cause inconvenience. However, the safety of our applicants and staff members is of highest priority,” it added.
Questions about re-opening could not be answered at the moment, according to the embassy, which did not elaborate on the nature of the threat.
On the face of it, the decision on the embassy closure is driven by the burning of the holy Quran in Stockholm on January 21.
