MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): Some residents of central Maidan Wardak province say the lines of imported electricity pass through their houses and lands, but they are deprived of the facility.

They say government should send a delegation to their area to assess the damages caused by the high tension lines and poles.

The imported electricity lines stretched to Ghazni and other southern provinces pass through Maidan Wardak province, but most of villages in the province have no electricity.

However, electricity department officials say all areas of Saidabad district will be provided electricity this year.

Bahadur Khan, a resident of Sherazi Baba area in Saidabad district center, told Pajhwok that large electricity pylons were erected in their agricultural lands, but they were yet to be given electricity.

He said the danger of electricity was directed at them, but others benefited from it and they were deprived of electricity.

Abdul Bari, a resident of Salar area in the same district, said they suffered a lot during the past war and now the government should pay attention to their problems.

He said: “All the wars happened in our area, now we lack electricity; we should be provided electricity because it is our right and we need it.”

Rahmatullah, another resident said the large power pylons had destroyed much of agricultural land and the harvest had decreased.

He said the high tension lines posed a lot of danger to the people who also suffered damages to their crops, but they remained deprived of electricity and used solar power.

Electricity Department officials confirmed the problems being faced by the residents and promised that electricity would be extended to all areas of Saidabad district this year.

Maulvi Abdul Haq Talha, director of electricity in Maidan Wardak, told Pajhwok that large electricity poles were installed in people’s agricultural lands and houses in the previous system.

He said that electricity had been provided to some areas of Saidabad district and would be provided to the remaining areas in 1402 solar year according to the plan.

He said: “We have shared the issue of electricity extension to these areas with the ministry and it is planned that the work will start soon this year.”

He added electricity was being extended to the military base in Sultankhel area of the district with the help of the Ministry of Interior from where it would be extended to nearby areas.

Most families in Maidan Wardak province have no access to government electricity and are using solar power systems.
