More than 2,400 prisoners released ahead of Eid

KABUL (Pajhwok): More than 2,460 prisoners were released after being pardoned on the occasion of Eidul Fitr and sentences of another 470 prisoners commuted, the Supreme Court said on Wednesday.

The Supreme Court tweeted today (Wednesday): “According to the directives of the leadership of the Islamic Emirate, the Prime Minister (PM) and the order of Chief Justice of Supreme Court, 2460 prisoners who were entitled to pardon were released nationwide and sentences of another 471 eligible prisoners  reduced”.

The source wrote: “Based on the second decision dated (6/9/1444 AH) No. 35 of the Supreme Council, a joint board was established at country level for gathering information about prisoners entitled to a pardon and with unknown fate. After the information of this board, the decision to release the prisoners was made and sentences of others commuted.”

Every year, on the occasion of every Eid, a number of prisoners are released, or their jail terms reduced.
