Kazakhstan to ramp up trade with Afghanistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Kazakh deputy prime minister says his country plans to ramp up trade cooperation with landlocked Afghanistan.

Serik Zhumangarin, who also holds the trade portfolio, was quoted as saying on Monday: “We cooperate and trade with Afghanistan…”

The premier, according to Kazinform, put the bilateral trade volume at a billion US dollars — higher than Kazakhstan’s trade levels with Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

He saw bright prospects for Kazakhstan delivering wheat, flour and seed oil to Afghanistan.

Zhumangarin added: “We have already opened a trade house there and appointed our representative who will coordinate all this work, because Afghanistan is a diverse country.”

He hinted at inviting Afghan traders to a business forum to help them see the investment/trade opportunities offered by Kazakhstan.
