PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): More than a dozen people, mostly policemen, have been killed over 50 others wounded in two separate attacks in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Thirteen policemen were killed in a massive explosion at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station in the Kabal town of Swat district on Monday.
Fifty-two others, including civilians, were injured in the twin blasts, said a senior police officer, who did not comment on the nature of the bombings.
He suggested the blasts could have resulted from an ammunition dump that included old mortar shells in the area. The injured were evacuated to the Saidu Sharif Hospital in Mingora.
Meanwhile, Regional Police Officer Nasir Mahmood Sati said the explosions occurred at the arms depot at the CTD police station.
Rescuers feared the toll could rise as some of the injured were in critical condition. Some of the critically wounded people were shifted to Peshawar hospitals.
Elsewhere in the province, three militants were gunned down in an exchange of fire in Lakki Marwat district, police said.
