KABUL (Pajhwok): A senior UN official has urged aid providing countries and institutions to honor its pledged regarding support to Afghanistan.
Martin Griffiths, Under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief coordinator, expressed the view while talking to reporters in Tehran.
He said the financial aid provided to Afghanistan was less than what had been promised, adding that the most vulnerable people in Afghanistan were women and children.
“The people of Afghanistan should also recognize its responsibility and make sure to achieve self-reliance to they may not need support from outside,” he said.
On his Twitter handle, he said: “Had a constructive meeting today with #Iran's Foreign Minister @Amirabdolahianin Tehran. We discussed humanitarian issues and current developments in the region. I value our partnership on disaster response & preparedness, and look forward to further collaboration.”
