KABUL (Pajhwok): Meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has discussed matters related to Afghanistan’s political, security, economic and cooperation with the ‘Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’ (IEA) in fight against terrorism and drug trafficking, an official said on Saturday.
Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, deputy spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on his Twitter handle wrote: “Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Russia Jamal Nasir Gharawal was invited to the CSTO meeting held on April 27.”
He said the meeting was Afghanistan centric in which matters related to Afghanistan’s politics, security and economy were discussed and CSTO nation’s cooperation with the IEA on counter-terrorism and count-narcotics was stressed.
He said: “His excellency Gharawal besides political condition, nationwide security and counter-narcotics efforts briefed the participants on the economic progress and addressed the CSTO members concerns.”
The Russian led CSTO last year warned that terrorist organization had placed its thousands of fighters in northern Afghanistan and posed major security threat to Afghanistan.
It expressed concerns that extremist elements were threat to Afghanistan but the IEA downplayed these concerns and termed them baseless. The acting Afghan government repeatedly said that Afghanistan posed no threat to any country in the region or beyond.
