KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): Truckloads of liquefied petroleum gas (LPGP) reached Pakistan from Turkmenistan for the first time through southern Kandahar province.

Mohammad Yunas Momand, Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment director, said at a ceremony in this regard here that it was for the first time that Turkmenistan gas was exported to Pakistan through Kandahar.

He said 50 trucks carrying the gas entered Pakistan via Spin Boldak-Chaman crossing. According to him, the gas was previously transported on another route that was 1,830 km long, but the new route was only 830 km long.

He said Afghanistan desired good bilateral relations with its neighbors and the country’s routes were open for transit trade.

He also asked the Islamic Emirate to provide more opportunities and facilities for investors to invest more in the country.

Afghan investor Attiqullah Saidal, who has started the export of gas from Turkmenistan, said that at first about a thousand people will be employed in the sector, but later their number will be increased.

“Initially, we are exporting 50 vehicles of gas and we plan to increase this export even more, which will also provide work opportunities for many people.”

Haji Abdul Ahad, the director of Kandahar Dried Fruit Sellers Association, said the new opportunity should be fully exploited and besides gas, oil and other goods should also be provided with transit facilities.

Kandahar Foreign Affairs Director Maulvi Abdul Shakoor Haqqani assured that the Islamic Emirate was fully cooperating with businessmen and investors and would provide them with all kinds of facilities.

Traders said if the export of gas had good outcome, they were ready to export oil to Pakistan and Bangladesh.
