12-kilometre long cycling race held in Zabul

QALAT (Pajhwok): A 12-kilometer cycling race involving 30 participants was held in Qalat, the provincial capital of southern Zabul province, on Monday.

Ahmad Ghulami, head of sport and physical education, told Pajhwok Afghan News the race started from Katli area and ended in  Qalat.

He said cyclist  Karimullah Hamdarad got first position, Ahmad Zia finished second and Ahmad Shah clinched third position.

Ghulami added the winner was given a bicycle and the second position holder was given a cup and the third a medal.

The aim of the race was to encourage young athletes, Ghulami said

Karimullah Hamdarad, who won the first position, said he had been practicing for the past few months in lead up to the event.
