TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Solar power systems have been provided to the Education Department of Tirinkot, the capital of central Uruzgan province, and six district education offices with financial support of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Maulvi Shamsullah Kamran, Uruzgan education director, told Pajhwok Afghan News the solar power systems consumed 23,300 US dollars provided by UNICEF. The technical work was done by the Social and Humanitarian Assistance Organization (SHAO).

Kamran said five kilowatts of solar power system was installed for the provincial Department of Education and three kilowatts for six district education offices.

He said they were trying to provide more facilities in cooperation with international aid agencies to education offices in order to promote the education process in the center and districts.

District education offices employees said they were happy that their offices were equipped with solar power systems.

Maulvi Mamak Sahib, Chora district education officer, told Pajhwok that previously they lacked electricity and had been facing problems, but now their problem had been solved.

He said many works relying on electricity could not be done before, but now things would improve and accelerate.

Local officials say 32 schools that were destroyed during the past wars in Uruzgan are being reconstructed.
