KABUL (Pajhwok): War-torn Syria has been readmitted to the Arab League following a suspension of more than a decade, Al Jazeera reports.
At a meeting of the Arab League’s headquarters in Cairo on Sunday, foreign ministers from member states agreed to restore Syria’s membership.
Scrapped after President Bashar al-Assad ordered a crackdown on protesters in early 2011, Syria’s reinstatement came ahead of the Arab League Summit in Saudi Arabia on May 19.
According to the organisation’s secretary-general, al-Assad could participate in the upcoming Arab League summit in Saudi Arabia.
