Azizi meets Shah: Karachi called 2nd home to Afghans

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A large number of Afghan businesspeople use Pakistan’s Karachi and Gawadar deep-sea ports to conduct trade with the world, says the minister of commerce and Industry.

Nooruddin Azizi said this at a meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, who called the Karachi port one of South Asia’s largest seaports.

The facility, handling 60 percent of Pakistan’s cargo, was the best trade route for Afghanistan, the chief minister told an Afghan delegation led by Azizi.

Aziz and Shah, who met on Tuesday, agreed to work together to boost trade and commerce for the prosperity and welfare of their peoples.

The visiting commerce minister was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Transport Sadiqullah Abid and senior Afghan government officials.

Pakistani Ambassador to Afghanistan Ubaidur Rehman Nizamani and several provincial ministers also attended the meeting at the CM House.

The Afghans living in Karachi, promotion of peace and stability and trade, as well as other issue of mutual interest came up for discussion, the CM House said.

Pakistan, particularly Karachi, was a second home to millions of Afghans, noted the chief minister, whose view was echoed by Azizi.
