KABUL (Pajhwok): Former US envoy for reconciliation in Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad has condemned the arrest of former Pakistani prime minister and politician Imran Khan, saying it would consequences.
In a statement on twitter page, Khalilzad wrote “the world must condemn the arrest and consider steps to encourage that country's establishment to change course.”
He said countries with strong ties to Pakistan must help its leaders reach an agreement that averted the imminent meltdown.
“How sad it is for a country that defines its national interests with Islamic identity, to be shown in the world with such a chaotic situation, and at the same time, it lags behind India more and more in many indicators of a successful society.”
He said a country with a very high capacity of ancient cultural heritage, natural resources and people with the spirit of entrepreneurship and hard work has repeatedly been kept in chaos by inefficient military and civilian elites.
Pakistani paramilitary forces arrested Imran Khan on corruption charges during a court appearance in Islamabad, sparking violent protests across the country.
