KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting deputy prime minister for administrative affairs Abdul Salam Hanafi on Monday said unnecessary bureaucracy still existed in some institutions and efforts were being made to introduce electronic systems.

Hanafi was addressing a meeting organized by the leadership of the Islamic Emirate to encourage and support the private sector.

“Unfortunately, bureaucracy is still endemic. We are trying to create facilities to promote electronic systems in the institutions so that no one faces complicated administrative procedures.”

He added all departments concerned were duty-bound to provide easy services under one roof in all ports, provinces and Kabul for the convenience of businessmen and industrialists.

Acting Commerce and Industry Minister Noruddin Azizi said that the current laws of the country were based on the needs of the nation and the private sector.

He urged the private sector to fully cooperate with the Islamic Emirate in the implementation of these laws.

Acting Economy Minister Qari Din Mohammad Hanif said that the Islamic Emirate had always listened to the problems of businessmen and industrialists.

He said despite dried up international aid, frozen assets and banking problems, the government did not raise taxes and instead provided facilities to businesspeople.

Afghanistan Chamber of Industries and Mines director Sherbaz Kaminzada said the private sector would take steps towards self-sufficiency as per special order from the leadership of the Islamic Emirate.

He linked political freedom with economic freedom.

Chamber of Commerce and Investment head Mohammad Yunas Momand said Afghanistan could develop if the government and the private sector worked shoulder to shoulder for the growth of trade, industry, agriculture and transit trade.

The speakers urged people to use their domestic products for the economic growth of the country.
