KABUL (Pajhwok): A sub-national immunisation campaign for the eradication of poliovirus started in 23 provinces of Afghanistan on Monday.
As part of the campaign, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) targets the vaccination of 6.4 million children below the age of five years.
Dr. Sharafat Zaman, spokesman for MoPH, told Pajhwok Afghan News the drive would cover children below five in 217 districts of the country.
MoPH registered 56 cases of polio in 2020, 4 in 2021 and two in 2022. The ministry has detected two polio cases since the beginning of 2023 in Nangarhar.
