KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs Maulvi Abdul Kabir has directed the Ministry of Transport and Aviation to reform and manage its affairs in line with new standards.
He issued the directive at a meeting with Deputy Minister of Transport Eng. Sediqullah Abid, the Government Media and Information Centre tweeted.
Abid briefed the deputy premier on progress, future plans and revenue of the ministry, according to the .tweet.
The deputy minister was quoted as saying that several contracts had been inked with foreign firms for the delivery of better services at the country’s airports.
Partially-enforced agreements between the previous government and foreign companies and legal issues also came under discussion at the meeting.
Kabir instructed the officials concerned to address the problems and review all such agreements at the level of the Transport Ministry.
Afghanistan was facing problems in terms of transportation and there was need to reforming the system and adopting new standards to facilitate the people, he added.
Separately, the deputy PM also met Sheikh Mohammad Yaqub Nizai, the president of Sheikh Zayed University of Khost and interacted with a number of university professors.
Kabir emphasised on his interlocutors to pay greater attention to boosting the standards of universities and other seats of scholarship across the country.
