KABUL (Pajhwok): Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged Central Asia countries to work jointly to promote peace and reconstruction in Afghanistan.
“We will continue to leverage the role of the coordination mechanism among Afghanistan’s neighbours,” he told the China-Central Asia Summit in Shaanxi province.
China Global Television Network quoted him as hoping the Central Asian countries would continue to help the Afghans maintain security and reconstruction.
The summit, which concluded on Friday, was attended by presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
In the Xi’an Declaration, the participants agreed to build a closer community with a shared future between China and Central Asian countries.
They appreciated the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and vowed to coordinate their respective development strategies with the ambitious project.
Pledging to boost connectivity, the participants promised to speed up the construction of the cross-border railroad connecting China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
