KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): The construction work of streets, ditches and culverts have started in eight Municipality Districts of Kandahar City, the provincial capital, an official said on Saturday.
Kandahar City Mayor Niamatullah Hassan told Pajhwok Afghan News the project has started from the first Municipality District and in the first phase 700 metres of streets and ditches would be constructed.
The cost of the project is nearly 13 billion afs which will be provided from the development budget of the municipality. Fifty skilled and 120 unskilled people will be provided work opportunities.
“The uplift schemes are carried out with text payers money and we ask the people to pay their taxes on time so the government would be able to serve them in the best manner,” he said.
Wali Mohammad, one of the project worker, said: “We are happy to have a work opportunity here, we will not be unemployed if there are more uplift schemes”
Karim Barai, a community representative, said: “These projects are according to our will and we are happy about it. During winter these streets are in terrible condition and water enter public houses but after this work the problem would be resolved.”
Kandahar Mayor says that a large number of uplift schemes are being planned though which a many people will get work opportunity.
