ATLANTA (Pajhwok): Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan said that his party’s vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi would lead the party in case he is disqualified by the court, a media report said.

“If I am disqualified, Shah Mehmood Qureshi will run the party,” Khan told reporters at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore on Saturday, according to Geo TV.

The statement comes as the PTI chief faces over 100 cases on several charges including corruption and terrorism since being ousted from power in April last year.

Earlier this month, Khan was arrested in Al-Qadir Trust case in compliance with National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrest warrants, News 18 said.

“I know that there is a plan to arrest me, disqualify me, If I am arrested or disqualified, Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Pervez Khattak will handle the [party] affairs,” Khan was quoted as saying by Pakistani media.

Although Khan named Qureshi as his replacement, the PTI vice chairman is currently behind bars. Qureshi was rearrested by Punjab Police from outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail and whisked away to an unknown location, minutes after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered his release last week (May 23).
