KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations Children’s Fund says it provided treatment and food to 140,000 children under the age of five in Afghanistan during the last three months.
UNICEF tweeted on Wednesday it provided necessary nutrition and medicine to 140,000 children under the age of five suffering from acute malnutrition.
The UN agency had previously said it could not provide special food items for malnutrition in Afghanistan due to lack of fund and thousands of children could die due from acute malnutrition.
UNICEF said it needs an immediate budget of 21 million dollars to provide the food items.
Melanie Galvin, UNICEF’s head of nutrition in Afghanistan, said that 875,000 children in Afghanistan will suffer from acute malnutrition this year.
