ATLANTA (Pajhwok): The fourth polio case has been registered in eastern Nangarhar province this year, according to UNICEF official on Friday.

Syed Kamal Shah, the UNICEF Public Relations Officer in Kabul told VoA that the fourth polio case had been recorded in the Behsud district.

He said the incident had been recorded and more information in this regard were being collected.

According to BNN Network a four-year-old boy from “Tamarkhil” village in the “Sarache Ghondi” area has been left permanently paralyzed due to the disease. This recent incident adds to the rising number of polio cases in the province, amplifying the urgency to address the issue promptly.

Nangarhar province has become a focal point of polio outbreaks, as this year alone, four children have been affected by the disease, all of whom are now permanently paralyzed. Earlier cases were registered in Nazian, Kot, and Batikot districts of Nangarhar.

Health officials express deep concern about the situation and stress that all children under the age of five are susceptible to polio. The escalating number of cases underscores the need for intensified efforts to protect children through vaccination.
