Pre-hajj flight operation commences from Kandahar

KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): Pre-hajj flight operations commenced on zone level from Ahmad Shah Baba Airport to Saudi Arabia in southern Kandahar province on Sunday.

The first flight carrying 346 residents of Uruzgan province took off for Saudi Arabia early this morning.

A ceremony in this regard was held at Ahmad Shah Baba Airport late last night, in which many officials participated.

Kandahar Hajj and Auqaf Director Maulvi Abdul Basir Faiz said that 7,492 people from Kandahar, Helmand, Zabul and Uruzgan provinces would be flown to Saudi Arabia to perform hajj this year.

He said the intending pilgrims would be sent in 24 flights in 12 days and the service commenced on Sunday.

Kandahar Governor Mullah Muhammad Sherin Akhund asked guides of the pilgrims to fulfill their responsibility well and also assured the intending pilgrims of complete facilities during their journey.

Maulvi Fathullah Mansour, the head of the air force in Kandahar, assured the pilgrims that they will not face any problems at Ahmad Shah Baba International Airport.

Officials say today’s flight of pilgrims from Kandahar was to Jeddah, but direct flights to Medina have been conducted from other areas of Afghanistan.
