FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Former police chief for Baghlan province was killed in a bomb blast that ripped through a memorial ceremony inside a mosque in northwestern Badakhshan province on Thursday, an official said.
The explosion took place shortly after 11am inside Nabwi mosque in Faizabad, the provincial capital, where a fateha ceremony for slain deputy governor Mualvi Nisar Ahmad Ahmadi was being held.
Ahmadi and his driver were killed two days ago in a car bomb attack in Faizabad.
Mahazuddin Ahmadi, Badakhhsan director of information and culture, confirmed the killing of former Baghlan police chief Maulvi Safiullah Samim in today’s blast at the condolence ceremony.
Without providing details, he said the explosion caused causalities, but exact figures were no known immediately.
However, according to local broadcaster Tolo News, 15 people were killed and 50 others were wounded in the blast that targeted officials and people who had gathered to pay respect to Ahmadi.
