KABUL (Pajhwok): Islamic Emirate’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has termed a recent United Nations Security Council (UNSC) report about Afghanistan as ‘full of prejudice and against the principles of non-intervention’, urging an end to such ‘baseless’ reports.

The Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team of the UN Security Council in its annual  report released yesterday said that Afghanistan under Taliban rule has reverted to “exclusionary, Pashtun-centered, autocratic policies of the Taliban administration of the late 1990s.”

The report said terrorism was increasing in Afghanistan and in the region and there were indications Al Qaeda was rebuilding operational capability and operations by Daesh or Islamic State were becoming more sophisticated and lethal.

The report added 58 officials of the current caretaker government of Afghanistan remained on the UNSC sanctions list.

The report also said the Taliban had not implemented the Doha agreement.

Zabihullah Mujahid said the UNSC report was unilateral, unbalanced and far from the reality.

Mujahid, about the Islamic Emirate’s stance about the report said: “The government of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) considers this report full of prejudice, against the principles of non-interference and such reports must end”.

He said: “Baseless accusations have been reflected in the report about IEA such as dissent among the IEA leadership, that Afghanistan has become a safe haven for terrorists and IEA officials are involved in drugs trade and they have monopolized power and that no other tribes are included in the government …it is a clear enmity with the people of Afghanistan, its regime and this is the continuation of baseless and biased propaganda”.

Mujahid strongly rejected the use of Afghanistan’s soil against neighboring countries or supporting their opponents and said: “It seems from the content of the report that its author has no access to information or has deliberately distorted the facts or the source of information is the fugitive opponents of the IEA”.

He said the Islamic Emirate was committed to its promises and assured the neighboring and other countries that no threat would be posed to them from the Afghan soil and the IEA would not allow anyone to use this land against other countries.

He said: “The two years of IEA rule has proved its claim that the relations of the government with neighboring and other important countries of the region are expanding day by day and has made good progress on common interests, while all this progress is the result of bilateral trust”.

Mujahid added poppy cultivation, production and trafficking of drugs had significantly decreased and recent reports of international media outlets were a clear proof in this regard.

He said such unilateral and unreliable reports were not only unhelpful for peace and security in Afghanistan and in the world also caused worries among people and also casted doubts on the independence and impartiality of the UN.

Mujahid said all decisions of the IEA were made in the light of Islamic Sharia, bilateral and multilateral commitments and national interests, and IEA was ready to continue interacting with the international community in order to reach common concerns.
